‘I adore American culture and I love going on road trips through this vast land, preferably on a motorcycle. In 1991 my wife Philippa and I rode a Honda Goldwing in a huge U shape around the USA for two and half months. Most of the photographs on this pot are from last year when I rode my psychedelic custom Harley Davidson around during the making of a documentary series for Channel 4, which will be broadcast during the run of this exhibition. There are images from Atlanta, Washington, New York, Martha’s Vineyard, Chicago and Wisconsin. The pot is a roadmap of American cultural icons I enjoy and I could list off the top of my head. They run from hyperstars like Elvis and Walt Disney to forgotten heroes like Cliff Vaughs and Ben Hardy who built the motorcycles ridden by Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper in Easy Rider.’ – Grayson Perry
